Much of North Carolina is running an inch below normal for rainfall here in the month of May. That is about to change though as we enter a much wetter weather pattern that will favor daily rain chances for the rest of the week and even into early next week.

As we enter this wetter pattern, not every one will see rain Tuesday. Any showers and thunderstorms will be scattered, or "hit or miss", in nature Tuesday afternoon and evening. Much of the day will be partly sunny, and it will not be as hot as the past few days.  Highs should top out in the low to mid 80s.

Showers and storms should become more widespread across the region Wednesday morning and afternoon. From that point on, we'll see off and on rain for the rest of the week.

The threat for severe storms that would produce hail or damaging winds looks low at this time. The bigger concern will be heavy downpours by the end of the week. With day after day of off-and-on rain, isolated flooding could occur in a few locations.

Most of North Carolina will see at least an inch and a half to three inches of rain from Tuesday through the upcoming weekend. Due to the downpours, a few spots will likely end up with up to four inches if not a little more.
