ANGIER, N.C. -- Black River Grove Missionary Baptist Church stood tall in Angier since 1920, but it all came crumbling down Wednesday afternoon.

Angier first responders say the roof of the 98-year-old church likely collapsed on its own. No one was inside the church when it happened, and no one was injured. However, the church is completely destroyed.

Black River Grove Missionary Baptist has about a dozen regular members. Pastor Joseph Jones says although his disciples are now without a sanctuary, this could still be a blessing from God.

"This might be something good in hiding," said Jones. "It needed a lot of repairs and now it's down, but we've been praying for restoration."

Members say they will continue to worship even though their church is in ruins.

"Everything eventually is going to come to this," said Thomas Hockaday, who taught bible study at the church. "Everything eventually is going to collapse, but our faith in God is enduring, abiding, and cannot be shaken by a tragedy like this."
