GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Through Saturday, families hit by Sunday's tornado have a central location to start getting help.

  • Disaster center now open at Willow Oaks Community Center
  • Bring photo ID and social security card
  • 95 percent of damages are in city limits

The City of Greensboro has partnered with the county and Red Cross to open a disaster resource center at Willow Oaks Community Center at 1815 Everitt Street. The Red Cross says it's working on immediate needs right now but will stay in contact with each client.

"Then we will continue to work with them,” says Susan Smith, senior disaster program manager for the Red Cross. “We'll have their contact information. We will do follow up to make sure they have either received the immediate needs or the referrals they need to community resources or what we can help to assist with in the coming days."

The center is open 9 a.m to 7 p.m. The department of social services is also there to provide help. The whole process runs smoother if you can bring a photo ID and your social security card.

There is also a tax extension for those affected by last week's tornado. For more information on that, visit here.
