CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- For a final time, people came out to hear The Voice.
For Tar Heel fans, there is only one man refered to by that name, and that is the legacy of Woody Durham. The iconic broadcaster passed away last month. On Sunday, his family, friends, colleagues and legions of fans turned out for a special celebration of his life.
It was said that Durham did the broadcasts for over 1800 Tar Heel ballgames between 1971 through 2011, when he retired. During that span, he covered numerous championships and bowl games and was the play by play announcer calling four national basketball title games for the University of North Carolina.
All the fans had their favorite Woody Durham story or a particular call from a particular game.
