The snow that fell in part of North Carolina Wednesday morning will likely not be the final flakes of the season for the state. It now appears that another storm system will bring a mix of rain and snow to the state this weekend.

Before the weekend arrives, we'll get to enjoy a couple of mostly sunny days Thursday and Friday. Highs will be in the 50s for most of the state except for the 40s in the mountains and the Outer Banks.

By the end of the week, low pressure will develop in the central part of the country and track toward the Carolinas Saturday. That will bring increasing clouds to North Carolina from Friday night into Saturday morning. Rain will then spread from west to east across the state during the day Saturday.

The state's mountains could see the precipitation fall as snow or a rain/snow mix during the day Saturday. Other locations from near the Triad and Triangle to the north could see the rain mix with or change to a period of snow late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Other areas from Charlotte to Fayetteville to most of eastern North Carolina will likely only see rain.

For locations that see snow, accumulation could be difficult due to a relatively warm ground and temperatures that will be hovering near or just above freezing. Areas near the Virgina border will possibly see some light accumulations.

The timing, strength, and exact track of the low could still change some of the details in the weekend forecast. Stay tuned to Weather on the 1s as a our team of meteorologists continues to fine tune the forecast over the next couple of days.

Low pressure tracking south of NC could produce a mix of rain and snow across the state late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
