WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In a rare event, the United States Supreme Court has issued a split order regarding the racial gerrymandering case against North Carolina's legislative maps.

In an order on Tuesday, the Court issued a partial stay in the case, saying that revisions for legislative districts for Wake and Mecklenburg Counties are blocked, pending an appeal to the high court.

Meanwhile, the State Senate is set to return to Raleigh on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday the Senate Leader's office said they were waiting on rulings from the courts before setting an agenda.

Filing for legislative elections is expected to open Monday, Feb. 12.
