HOKE COUNTY, N.C. -- A man accused of assaulting a West Hoke Elementary School teacher is now in custody.
Michael Nivens is charged with attempted first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The sheriff's office says he was seen on surveillance video walking into the school in Raeford just before 6 p.m. Monday.
Detectives say Nivens then asked the teacher about a former employee before hitting her on the head and hands with an unknown object.
The victim is still recovering from her injuries.
