HILLSBOROUGH-- An Orange County man found out the hard way some pastors do pack heat.

Cory Bradshaw, 38, is charged with felony breaking and entering a house of worship and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

Deputies say he tried to enter the Five Forks Church near Hillsborough Thursday afternoon. However, Bradshaw didn't know that Pastor Austin Brown was inside with a gun.

“The pastor had confronted him. They got into some type of altercation,” says Investigator Keith Goodwin.

Authorities say Brown noticed Bradshaw and fired a warning shot. As Bradshaw ran to his car, the pastor kept firing with a bullet hitting and deflating a tire.

“Well we knew he was headed north on NC-86 and with him having a flat tire, we knew he wouldn't be far,” adds Goodwin.

Deputies say Bradshaw pulled over on McDade Store Road to change the flat tire. When a deputy spotted him, he ran but officers caught him near the intersection of Carr Store and Compton Roads. Investigators say when they questioned Bradshaw, he made a full confession. Authorities aren't revealing his motive right now pending the investigation.

Bradshaw appeared in an Orange County court Friday via video. A judge kept his bond at $10,000 and ordered him back to court for a bond review hearing on Monday.

Authorities say more details are expected to come out. Pastor Brown isn't facing any charges.
