HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. -- Harnett County's NAACP is calling for the resignation of a Dunn officer who they say assaulted a man on the ground in handcuffs during a traffic stop in 2012.

The incident recently came to light when dash cam footage surfaced, but the group claims the city has known about it for quite a while.

"Not only was there action taken, it was covered up," said Harnett CoUNTY NAACP President Carolyn P. McDougal. "How many more have to be covered up? When the city officials were recently confronted about this assault, their response was, because the case was five years old, they did not want to be bothered with it."

The NAACP says they will try to meet with city officials and hold another press conference and protests at Dunn City Hall sometime in the near future.
