CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a homicide in west Charlotte which prompted a nearby high school to be put on lock down Thursday afternoon.

Police were called out to the 2400 block of Kendall Lane near West Charlotte High School just after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Jay Jevon Phifer, 41, was found dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

Police say the shooting was not related to the school.

Phifer's death marks Charlotte's 79th homicide of the year.
