RALEIGH-DURHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- A new airline landed at RDU Airport for the first time Friday morning.

It was wheels down for Virgin America. The airline was greeted on the tarmac with a water cannon salute.

Virgin America, which is part of Alaska Airlines, now joins United Airlines with daily non-stop service to San Francisco.

Virgin marks the tenth airline carrier to join RDU to help serve the 30,000 travelers who pass through the terminals each day.

So what's next for the airport?

RDU International has plans to launch a nonstop flight to Puerto Rico starting in December.

Next year, additional nonstop flights will be offered to Kansas City, Missouri, Providence, Rhode Island and Cincinnati.
