GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. -- Eric Campbell will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A jury chose to unanimously sentence Campbell to life behind bars instead of delivering the death penalty.

Deliberations started Wednesday morning in the sentencing phase.

Last month, a jury convicted Campbell of killing Jerome and Dora Faulkner in December 2014.

Campbell was accused of robbing and killing the Faulkners and burning their home in 2014.

The defense claimed Eric's father, who committed suicide in jail, planned and committed the murders.

Campbell was also found guilty of first degree burglary, robbery with dangerous weapon, second degree arson and two counts of animal cruelty.
