EASTOVER-This New Year's celebration may not have the huge crowds that you see in Times Square every December 31st but for this Cumberland County town, it is a humorous way to celebrate with family and frinds the arrival of another new year.

The event is called the Eastover Flea Drop. A model of a giant flea is dropped several dozen feet from a platform as the crowd counts down the seconds to New Year's Day. When Eastover was incorporated about 5 years ago, they wanted to find a way to get the community out for a celebration of the new year. Someone, researched the area's history and found that back in the early 1800s, the community was called Flea Hill. And that's how the annual event got started.

The initial crowd for it was very large and even recieved some national news coverage. The crowds since have gotten a bit smaller but town officials say the fun and fellowship that inspired the event is as great as ever.

The Eastover Flea Drop gets started at 10 PM on New Year's Eve at the town's community center.
