NORTH CAROLINA -- More maneuvering over constitutional amendment proposals today, as the group charged with educating the public about the amendments met.

The Constitutional Amendment Publications Commission has three members: Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, Attorney General Josh Stein, and Legislative Services Officer Paul Coble. That’s two Democrats and one Republican.

Coble did not show up to today’s meeting, citing the veto of a bill changing the commission’s power. The General Assembly is set to return to Raleigh to consider overriding that veto on Saturday. But Sec. Marshall and AG Stein say the commission still has obligations under current law and that Coble should have shown up.

They also say the constitutional amendments are too vague and that voters may end up voting for an amendment, thinking it does one thing, but it actually does something else.
