WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Dozens of both city and county agencies are staffing an emergency response center in Winston-Salem for the next few days, as drivers adjust to the Business 40 closure.

  • Officials already know this closure will have a serious impact on the daily commutes for tens of thousands of drivers
  • Officials are asking for plenty of patience as everyone gets comfortable with their alternate routes
  • It will be helpful to have all the agencies in one room because that will allow them to respond to any emergencies quicker

More than 28 agencies, including law enforcement, emergency management, and even school district officials will be standing by today and tomorrow, during morning and evening rush hours, to immediately respond to any serious incidents that might pop-up.

This is simply a precautionary measure, because officials already know this closure will have a serious impact on the daily commutes for tens of thousands of drivers but they can't fully be sure what to expect.

Officials say it will be helpful to have all the agencies in one room because that will allow them to respond to any emergencies quicker and get information to the public immediately.

This is also the same center the county would open for a hurricane or other unprecedented natural disaster or large event.

Officials are asking for plenty of patience as everyone gets comfortable with their alternate routes.

As of now, the center will be activated from 7-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m. today and tomorrow.
