FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- A voting machine malfunction is causing issues at one of the county's biggest precincts.
- The machine is not counting the ballots as it normally would
- Voters are having to slide their completed ballots in a reserve slot on the machine, where they will be counted at a later time
- With 3,200 registered voters in the precinct, it could be a long night of tallying
The chief judge at Seventh Day Adventist Church says in her 20 years of working at the location, she has never run into a problem like this.
The issues was noted before the precinct even opened on Tuesday morning, and now they are working to get a new one.
The problem? The machine is not counting the ballots as it normally would. Typically, voters scan their completed ballots and their votes would be counted on the spot.
With the machine now malfunctioning, voters are having to slide their completed ballots in a reserve slot on the machine, where they will be counted at a later time.
With 3,200 registered voters in the precinct, it could be a long night of tallying for the Chief Judge, in order to assure voters' ballots are counted.
Once the precinct gets the new machine, votes will be able to be counted automatically. Those cast during the malfunction will be counted after the polls close.
