GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After a teacher discovered mold in a classroom in Kiser Middle School, cleanup started quickly.

  • The school called in an outside inspection company
  • Several factors could have caused the mold, including recent humidity and rains from Florence
  • Officials are confident the mold is gone and the district contacted parents after it was cleared

More was found in a second room, and the school called in an outside inspection company.

The district chief operations officer said the entire process only lasted a few days.

"We reacted very quickly. Both from a staff perspective, but also bringing in mold specialists that can remediate that very quickly. We feel confident that we've got the problem solved," Scott McCully said.

Several factors could have caused the mold. McCully said the recent humidity and rains from Florence made an impact.

The quick action was needed, considering the fast growth of mold.

"It only takes 24 to 48 hours for mold to form," Jason Michael said. He is the president, Home Spectors Inspection Services.

McCully is confident the mold is gone, and says the district contacted parents after it was cleared.
