GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The City of Greensboro will soon be filled with promotions of a new initiative, Invest East.

  • Invest East is a new intiative
  • It brings awareness to opportunities in east Greensboro
  • East Greensboro NOW has worked to bring in new businesses, investments and housing for 20 years

The city partnered with East Greensboro NOW to bring awareness to the opportunities in the area.

East Greensboro NOW has worked for 20 years already to bring in new businesses, investments and housing.

"We probably have worked with over 450 entrepreneurs starting their business. In addition we've probably seen close to 350 new jobs coming to the area since then," Sims said.

Sharon Hightower is one of the spearheads of the project. She represents District 1 in the Greensboro City Council, part of which includes east Greensboro. She sees the area as the future.

"You really can only grow east. The city pretty much has seen its boundaries stretched in the west," Hightower said.

She also wants to change the way people think about the area.

"A lot of times people talk about east Greensboro, and they address all the negatives. But there's so much positive going on that we have to celebrate why it's the place to grow and the place to be," she said.

Sims says his office is already receiving calls from people interested in bringing their businesses and investments east.
