WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A Winston-Salem basketball coach is recovering after being shot at his apartment early Wednesday.

• Torez Young-Canty was shot several times
• Young-Cany says he believes he was almost robbed
• Police are searching for a silver sedan that left the scene

29-year-old Torez Young-Canty is an assistant coach at Piedmont International College and a former player at Winston-Salem State University.

Police say suspects knocked on his apartment door on Old Salisbury Court at about 3:45 a.m. There was a fight and he was shot several times.

Young-Canty thinks he was the victim of a potential robbery.

Police say they're looking for a silver sedan that left the scene.
