GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Scattered thunderstorms will develop again today.

  • Slight risk for severe thunderstorms today with damaging winds and hail
  • Afternoon highs will top out around 80 in the mountains and close to 90 across the Piedmont
  • There is no big break coming from the heat and humidity

There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today with damaging winds and hail. The storms will also produce frequent lightning and torrential downpours. Afternoon highs will top out around 80 in the mountains and close to 90 across the Piedmont.

After today, we will get a break from the daily afternoon storms. Monday an isolated storm is possible and Tuesday should be a quiet afternoon.

There is no big break coming from the heat and humidity but at least it's just typical August heat. Be sure to dump any standing water around your home and yard as these are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The Perseid Meteor shower will peak tonight. The weather may not make for the most favorable viewing conditions tonight, but the shower continues for several more nights.

The skies should be clearer Monday and Tuesday night. No special equipment necessary. Just find a dark spot and look up!
