GREENSBORO, N.C. -- School officials are expecting a record number of students to move in over the next three days at UNC Greensboro.

  • This weekend is move-in weekend at UNC Greensboro.
  • An increase in traffic is expected.
  • Officials say an additional 2,000 cars will be on campus.

They say almost 6,000 students will live on campus this year, and half of those will be first-years.

A record number of students also means a record number of cars on campus over the next three days.

School officials are asking drivers to completely avoid Tate Street if possible. They're also warning drivers that both Gray Drive and North Drive will have a one-way traffic pattern. Anyone who is not moving in a student is asked to avoid that area, or expect heavy traffic.

Even with all the expected traffic, officials say they're excited to welcome a brand new class.

"Move in day's always fun, parents come, they drop their kids off, everyone's lost, everyone's hot, everybody's frustrated, but we have about 300 juniors and seniors coming to help, the UNCG police department helps, kids move in, I'll be going around," said Chancellor Frank Gilliam.

The McIver Parking Deck is reserved for move-in over the next three days. The school also asks that when you're dropping off a student, at least one person should stay in the car to make sure traffic keeps moving.

UNCG expects an additional 2,000 cars to be on campus each day for the rest of the week, so they ask for your patience.
