HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Furniture manufacturers are keeping a close eye on the changing prices due to recently imposed tariffs.
- China and the European Union imposed tariffs on some American goods
- High Point Furniture Market says a lot of home furnishings suppliers have moved out of China but they still get a lot product from that country
- Manufacturers could look into getting items in pieces rather than already assembled, or products outside of China
First China and then the European Union imposed tariffs on some American goods.
Those moves came in response to tariffs imposed by the U.S.
High Point Furniture Market officials say a lot of home furnishings suppliers have moved out of China but they still get a lot product from that country.
But overall, it's a global industry that is used to change to production costs.
"There's been people taking sides for quite awhile. Folks are chasing labor and production efficiencies around the globe, it truly is a global industry. So it isn't new to the industry but any kind of change like this is very upsetting," said Tom Conley, the president and CEO of High Point Market.
A lot of manufacturers could look into getting items in pieces rather than already assembled or look into getting product outside of China.
