Periods of unsettled weather with rain and storms are expected for the remainder of the holiday weekend.

  • Lots of rain for Monday and Tuesday
  • Muggy weather and highs reaching the 80s
  • Alberto could become a category 1 hurricane before landfall

Now, even though organized severe weather is not anticipated, many storms may produce very heavy rain and frequent lightening.  Gusty winds will also be possible in a few storms.  Meanwhile, look for very muggy weather with daytime highs reaching the 80s. Subtropical Storm Alberto will continue to move northward through the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

Currently, the storm is producing winds around 45 mph.  However, Alberto is expected to strengthen the next couple of days before making landfall along the Gulf Coast on Monday.  In fact, the storm could become a Category 1 hurricane shortly before landfall.

So, what does Alberto mean for the Carolinas?  Well, lots of rain seem likely on Monday and Tuesday.  Otherwise, wind and storm surge issues will remain well to our south and west.
