LEXINGTON, N.C. -- It has been more than five months since a fire destroyed most of Lexington's depot district.

  • Since the fire, redevelopment talks for the area slowed down
  • The city as a whole wants the project to succeed
  • The city is also looking at possibly bringing down the iconic smoke stacks

Since the fire, redevelopment talks for the area slowed down. However, one developer says he's ready to get things rolling. He says the slow down is frustrating, but he knows the city as a whole wants them to succeed.

"You know, you do business in different towns,” says developer Michael Tesh. “When you come to Lexington you can see that everybody is really pro-business. They're solution driven rather than just trying to make people jump through hoops. They're very professional.”

The city is also looking at possibly bringing down the iconic smoke stacks. Mayor Newell Clark says they noticed the stacks were damaged by the fire and fixing them may cost too much. No decision has been officially made yet.
