GUILFORD COUNTY -- The driver of a tractor trailer died in an accident on I-85 on Tuesday morning in Guilford County.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene. 

At this time the exact cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. But Master Trooper Brandon Baker says it does appear the driver may have fallen asleep or had a medical emergency. 

"Obviously speed is something that we look at anytime there is a crash. With this one, the vehicle just left the roadway, no indication of stopping or anything like that. And they went off the embankment into the body of water," said Master Trooper Baker.

Dive teams will recover the body before the truck can be towed away.

A portion of I-85 was expected to be closed for awhile while officials investigated and cleaned up the wreck.
