ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says it's now in the top 20 percent in the country for solved cases, and has the community and social media to thank for that.

In the last few months, deputies have increased their posts and interactions with people on Facebook, which is one of sheriff's New Year's resolutions.

"One of his administrative goals is transparency for the public,” says Captain Bernie Maness. “He wants to make sure the public can see what their sheriff is doing. He always refers to, 'it's their sheriff's office. We work for the citizens.'"

In 28 days, the department's Facebook page has been visited more than 200,000 times. To compare, there are just over 150,000 residents in Randolph County.
