GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina A&T State University campus police and the Greensboro Police Department are investigating the shooting of a man found dead on campus.

Authorities say a visitor notified campus security just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday after she was approached by a man with a gun near Pride Hall in the 400 block of Benbow Road.

The woman said she and the man got into a brief fight, at which time the gun discharged and the man ran away.

Campus police later found 25-year-old Kimeko D. James suffering from life-threatening injuries in a car near Pride Hall. He was pronounced dead at Moses Cone Hospital.

Authorities said James was not a NC A&T student.

Police say it is unclear at this time if the fatal shot was the one fired during the struggle between the woman and the armed man.

If you have information about the shooting, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.

Greensboro police said there were three murders in the city Thursday. There's no word if the homicides are related.

The university put together a campus safety forum in response to the shooting. It gave students a chance to express their concerns and suggest ways to enhance security:
