GREENSBORO -- A Greensboro charter school is developing a new $23 million campus to expand and grow its capacity.

Cornerstone Charter Academy purchased property near PTI Airport to develop a permanent home for the school. Construction crews are gutting a former four story multi-tenant office building to create more than 60 classrooms. Currently the school is split with K - 8 grade classrooms at The Cathedral Of His Glory and ninth graders using rooms at Calvary Christian Center.

"It means a permanent home for our students, it means housing for our students at one location,” said Board of Directors President, Karla Hall.

It took the school four years to find the right property and save money needed for this project.

“We did have a solid cash surplus in the bank which made our investors find us attractive and that allowed us to secure a bond for $23 million," Hall said.

The school wants to eventually be K-12.

The new campus is expected to be complete for the 2016-2017 school year.

Cornerstone Charter Academy school officials plan to hold a town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 15 at 7p.m.

The location is the K -8 campus at 2535 New Garden East in Greensboro.
