Helping veterans find a new outlet to express their emotions.
That was the goal of a writing workshop in Wilmington put on by the organization "Invisible Wounds of War."
On Saturday, participants had the chance to explore their invisible wounds by writing and discussing them with fellow veterans and active duty military members.
Organizers say they had a positive response from the workshop, in 2015.
"A lot of people reported that it did increase their communication with family members. It helped them feel like their relationships with family were improved. Several of our participants have gone on to write more. Several have bought their own cameras," said of Invisible Wounds of War Project Director Jen Johnson.
The organization is holding a free photographer workshop, on June 10 at the New Hanover County Northeast Regional Library.
