CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have three new coordinators this season, but Norv Turner may be the one watched the closest by the fan base.

  • Carolina has solid running backs in Christian McCaffrey and CJ Anderson

Turner is tasked with the job of returning quarterback Cam Newton to MVP heights.

Team GM Marty Hurney brought in playmakers to put around Newton, and now things should click, right? Only if everyone buys in.

Carolina has solid running backs in Christian McCaffrey and CJ Anderson. The wide receivers are led by Devin Funchess, Torrey Smith, Jarius Wright, rookie DJ Moore. Greg Olsen is the incumbent starting tight end, with rookie Ian Thomas having a solid camp.

All that talent with just one problem: only one ball to share.

"Sometimes you have to be unselfish," Wright said after practice Wednesday. "One game, somebody might have over 100 yards (receiving), next game somebody else might have over 100 yards. As long as we come out playing good football, I don't care who has it."

It will be that kind of mindset that will allow the Panthers offense to thrive. Head Coach Ron Rivera has said he is looking for McCaffrey to get 20 or more touches per game, either as a runner or a pass catcher. The coach has liked what he has seen from his 2nd year man out of Stanford.

"I've seen a very confident, positive, 'Hey I want to do more,'" Rivera said. "He's worked very hard at it. Worked at getting bigger, stronger, faster, quicker. You see even more attention to detail."
