WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Gov. Roy Cooper visited Wilmington Thursday on a three-stop tour looking at recovery results from Hurricane Florence.

  • He visited the FEMA Disaster Relief Center as well as a small business in the Brooklyn Arts district
  • Cooper told the owner of The Foxes Boxes that she was a hero for her actions during and after the storm
  • The business helped distribute more than 3,500 bags of hurricane relief items for victims

He visited the FEMA Disaster Relief Center as well as a small business in the Brooklyn Arts district. The governor told the owner of "The Foxes Boxes", Rachel Fox, that she was a hero for her actions during and after the storm.

Fox said they were living out of the restaurant for six nights and during that time they realized their neighbors needed food. The Foxes Boxes has been taking donations from the community to fill up bags with hurricane relief items for those in need. Fox says she could not have done this without the support of the community rallying together and helping out.

After the hurricane, Fox filled up thousands of bags. So far, the bags have been distributed to more than 3,500 families. The governor was appreciative of the meal and of The Foxes Boxes' overall commitment to the community.

"We want to show our support to small businesses, particularly as they try to recover from Hurricane Florence. And particularly, The Foxes Boxes. Not only is it working to recover for itself, it is working hard to recover for the community," Gov. Cooper said.

Gov. Cooper says we all need to help each other in times like these and The Foxes Boxes is a perfect example of that. He also says Wilmington has a long way to go, but he has seen a lot of great progress so far.
