NORTH CAROLINA -- FEMA is expanding its direct temporary housing assistance for Hurricane Florence victims. It previously served 10 counties in North Carolina including Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Robeson counties.

  • FEMA has distributed 35 mobile housing units so far in the 13 counties
  • The purpose of the travel trailers is to provide a temporary home for families while their home undergoes repairs
  • The challenge FEMA and residents are facing is finding a safe place to put mobile housing units for people living in areas at high risk of flooding

It has now added Bladen, Pamlico, and Lenoir counties. This decision is based on rental property availabilities within the county.

FEMA has distributed 35 mobile housing units so far in the 13 counties, roughly half of which being in Duplin County.

The purpose of the travel trailers is to provide a temporary home for families while their home undergoes repairs. FEMA determines who is eligible for the housing units based on information provided by their disaster recovery assistance registration.

The challenge FEMA and residents are facing is finding a safe place to put mobile housing units for people living in areas at high risk of flooding.

If you are curious how susceptible your property is to flooding, you can look up your address with FEMA's Flood Map Service Center.

FEMA has also extended the deadline for disaster recovery assistance registration to December 13.
