Buildings suffered several million dollars worth of damages to the roofs, a gymnasium floor, and mold.

Superintendent Mat Bottoms says they are able to return ahead of other counties because they found a crew who started cleanup as soon as the storm passed.

“We were impacted greatly by this hurricane but luckily we were able to find a team that could come in immediately, bringing in a large workforce to pull this off with a massive amount of equipment,” said Bottoms.

Schools were teeming with the same energy they did on the first day of school in August.

“People were charged up to come back. They were excited. They were out this morning shaking hands, giving high fives, giving hugs, it really felt like the first day of school all over again,” said Beaufort Middle School Principal Jessica Emory.
