NEW BERN, N.C. -- The interiors of small businesses in New Bern's historic district are piled on the curb following flooding from Hurricane Florence.

  • Homeowners and renters can apply for up to $240,000

Some businesses escaped with only minor damages but others lost everything to the storm.

One owner feels it is urgent for New Bern to recover quickly.

He helped the small business administration set up in the Centenary United Methodist Church so others could could apply for financial aid.

"It's so important not just in downtown but really all of New Bern to really keep our economy going so that we can put people back to work so they can help themselves rebuild from this unfortunate tragedy we've had here," said business owner Buddy Bengel.

Small businesses and non-profits can apply for up $2 million in loans.

Homeowners and renters can apply for up to $240,000.
