This has been the second wettest summer on record so far for Wilmington, and the wettest year to date on record. The city is over two feet above normal for rainfall since January 1, and it looks like those rain totals may go higher this coming weekend.

Before the weekend arrives, there's just a slight chance for a few isolated storms Thursday. Much of the day will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. High temperatures will range from the upper 80s at our beaches to the low 90s inland

Most of Friday will also be dry but a few storms are expected late Friday afternoon and evening. High temperatures will gain top out in the upper 80s to low 90s.

This weekend should not be a complete washout, but the coverage of afternoon storms will be more widespread. That results in higher rain chances for Saturday and Sunday. Some of the storms could produce locally heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Highs this weekend will be in the mid to upper 80s.
