WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Some nursery farmers and landscaping businesses are being pushed behind because of the constant rain.
- One nursery farm says it's typically able to stick to a schedule but the weather has impacted that
- Even nursery farmers who grow and supply plants to businesses said they are getting delayed with their regular operations
- For some, evening showers are ideal but the soaking rain is resulting in 75 percent less foot traffic
Nursery manager for Lloyd's Nursery & Landscape, Lisa Brinkley, said they typically are able to stick to a schedule, but the weather has impacted that.
"The guys are able to come in for a couple hours and then it's torrential rain," said Brinkley. "They're soaked to the bone. They're ready to go home and get some dry clothes on."
On a normal day, they would order plants from a nursery, do landscaping business and paving, but Brinkley said battling with the rain in a juggling act.
"We still have other jobs that we need to do, but we have to kind of prioritize the amount of time we have in between the rain bands."
Even nursery farmers who grow and supply plants to businesses, like Lloyd's Nursery & Landscape, said they are getting delayed with their regular operations.
Tinga Nursery, Incorporated Vice President Eelco Tinga III said the sheltered parts of their field are fine, but others -- not so much.
"Some of the field practices of pruning, fertilizing and things of that nature are going to get pushed back a little bit, and we just have to adapt to that and keep carrying on," said Tinga.
He said they like evening showers, but the soaking rain is resulting in 75 percent less foot traffic.
"Landscapers in particular, the jobs they're working on with the building boom we're in now, are going to be halted or pushed back a little bit and that's affecting sales," said Tinga.
In the mean time, Tinga and Brinkley are both hoping for better weather to come soon.
