A taste of summer in the forecast as we head into Mother’s Day weekend.

Ample sunshine helped warm things up Friday afternoon as many of us saw highs in the upper 80s to around 90.

Mostly sunny days will continue through the weekend with inland highs near 90 and highs at our beaches in the 80s. The sea breeze and relatively cooler ocean water will keep highs in the 80s at our southeastern beaches and the Crystal Coast. The Outer Banks will see highs in the 70s. Water temperature along most of the North Carolina coast is running close to 70.

The chance for any afternoon showers will be less than 20 percent the next few days. Scattered afternoon storms will be more likely around the middle and end of next week.
