WARSAW, N.C. – A video which has gone viral on social media shows a black man in prom attire being choked by a police officer and slammed to the ground.

  • Details are not known on what prompted the use of force.
  • The police chief tells us the their department and the SBI will investigate.
  • The name of the man in the video and the police officer have not yet been released.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a Waffle House in Warsaw.

Details about what occurred and what prompted the officer's use of force are not yet known.

Warsaw Police Chief Eric Southerland tells Spectrum News, “We are investigating the incident and I have contacted the District Attorney’s Office and asked that he contact the SBI to conduct their own investigation, independent of our investigation. Once both are complete then we will update the public as to the findings.”

The original video, posted on May 8, shows the white officer slamming him against a window by his neck, and then pinning him on the pavement with his hand on the man’s head.
