BLADENBORO, N.C. – A woman died after a house fire Sunday morning in Bladenboro.

Authorities say four people were asleep inside when the house on N.C. Highway 410 near Center Road caught on fire around 5 a.m.

They say Ida Butler, 75, died from smoke inhalation. 

Ida’s husband, Alvin Butler, suffered burns and was taken to the UNC Medical Center for treatment.

Two others inside were able to make it out safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
