RALEIGH -- Buying a TV isn't on a lot of New Year's Resolution lists, but maybe it should be.

Many retailers slash prices on televisions in the first month of the year. The reasons for the price drops include clearing out last year's models and catering to customers who want to watch playoff football on a bigger screen.

The strategy seems to have worked, as salespeople call January one of the busiest times to sell TVs, right behind the holiday season. Several shoppers came out to check out the sales on Sunday and left with a new TV in hand.

"They're all so competitively priced now that you can have your pick, really, and get really good quality," said Raleigh resident Amy Boyette.

According to Nielsen, more than 95 percent of households in America already have a TV.
