ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. -- A man rescued from the water in Atlantic Beach Sunday has died.
Justin Eakes, 21, suffered from cardiac arrest after being pulled from the ocean about two blocks east of the Doubletree Hotel.
Eakes was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he died Monday morning according to the Atlantic Beach fire chief.
A 19-year-old woman from Greenville was also pulled from the water. She was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
Both Eakes and the woman were swimming in an unguarded area of the beach.
On Saturday, a 56-year-old year-old man in Atlantic Beach drowned while trying to rescue two teenage girls from a rip current.
