DURHAM, N.C. — The Bull City will be rolling out new e-bikes and scooters in the coming weeks.

What You Need To Know

  •  Durham will be expanding the e-bike and scooter program, which started in 2019

  •  Discounted fares for eligible residents will be available

  • The update will fully launch in the coming weeks

Durham started its micromobility program in 2019, but will now expand it to include standing scooters, seated scooters and electric bikes.

All can be rented straight from your cell phone.

Federal data from July 2019, which the city used in its recent presentation, shows 350 bikeshares and e-scooter programs were being used by 200 communities across the country.

“They are going to be sitting around town for people to stop and use whenever they want," said Emma Vinella-Brusher, mobility services planner for the City of Durham. "One of the great things about the app is you can see where they are around town and go reserve it and use it whenever needed.”

City leaders say the program exists in order to help people have better access to things like groceries and health care.

In Durham, a discount will also be provided to eligible residents to make the program more accessible.
