Hundreds of homes have holiday decor that represents their family this season, thanks to a college student in the Triad.

What You Need To Know

  • A college student in the Triad created her line of diverse nutcrackers after seeing a lack of representation in holiday decor

  • Grace Bullock makes by hand each of the 17 different types of Nutcrackers offered on her site

  • Bullock is a junior at North Carolina A&T and thanks her family and college community for making the business an overnight success

Grace Bullock said she got the idea to launch DeEtte Market after seeing a lack of representation in holiday decor.

Her first collection includes 17 different types of nutcrackers that are made to represent Black and brown families.

“More than one race and ethnicity is buying the products, and I feel like everybody should be included. Everybody should look at the products and be able to see themselves,” she said while making her latest model.

Bullock is a junior studying public relations and marketing at North Carolina A&T State University.

She said the support she has received from her college community, family, and friends has helped turn the business into an overnight success.

“Honestly, it is overwhelming. It warms my heart, and I’m glad I could be somebody to help bridge the gap because there are so many people not represented in the stores, and I am so glad I get to represent our people," she said.

Bullock will add more to her collection of inclusive nutcrackers every year.
