- A school bus caught on fire at Holly Springs High School on Tuesday morning
- A child was on the bus when the fire started but was unharmed
- The driver was inside the school when the bus caught on fire
One child was on the bus when it caught on fire, but the bus driver and others took the child off the bus and tried to put out the fire, according to Wake County Public Schools System spokeswoman Lisa Luten.
Luten said the bus driver is the caretaker of the child and Wake County allows those kids to be on the bus with the driver while they do their job.
The driver pulled the bus in front of the school at 7 a.m. and had went inside to give the office some paperwork when the front end of the bus started smoking.
All buses are inspected each month, and the fire will be investigated, Luten said.
