WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. -- It’s not snowing yet in the High Country, but ski resorts are prepping for the season.

  • Resorts like Sugar Mountain have been purchasing new equipment
  • Temperatures are not low enough just yet but they hope to be blowing snow come early November
  • They say they are still hiring for many positions such as lift attendants, parking attendants, and lift cashiers

Snow blowing machines are set up and waiting, and resorts like Sugar Mountain have been purchasing new equipment.

The resort president says they purchased three new groomers this year to flatten out that snow, lots of new rental equipment and new snow making gear.

They say temperatures are not low enough just yet but they hope to be blowing snow come early November.

"Below 32 degrees in the mid-20s, low 20s, high teens. When it gets below the teens we still make snow but we have to be really careful because things freeze up," said Gunther Jochl of Sugar Mountain.

Sugar resort had a job fair on Saturday. They say they are still hiring for many positions such as lift attendants, parking attendants, and lift cashiers.
