FLORENCE, S.C. – A vigil was held for the Florence officer who was fatally wounded in the line of duty Wednesday and a crowdfunding account has been set up to raise money for his family.

Officer Terrence Carraway of Darlington was shot and killed during a standoff between law enforcement. Deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department were serving a warrant when the suspect, 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins, began shooting.
A total of seven law enforcement officers were shot including three deputies and four police officers. Chief Allen Heidler described the 30-year law enforcement veteran as “the bravest police officer,” during a press conference hours after the incident.
According to the GoFundMe account, he leaves behind a wife and young adult children. Serve and Connect, an organization founded to help families of fallen officers in South Carolina, has a goal to raise money for officer Carraway’s family. The fundraiser is also endorsed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, the South Carolina Police Chiefs Association and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program.
