CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- We could soon know the fate of confederate monument, Silent Sam.

Following the statue's unlawful toppling on Aug. 20, 2018, many questioned whether it should be left down for good.

Others argued that it should be put back up as quickly as possible; some going as far as to quote state laws.

At a Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, however, members said they are still taking public input, but are working on a short timeline. Chancellor Carol Folt has until Nov. 15 to decide.

"This is really part of a much larger process. This really is the part of contextualizing our university's history," chancellor Carol Folt said.

There are also plans to hold open forums. Comments on Silent Sam can be sent to the board at publicbot@unc.edu.
