CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Interstate 77 toll lanes construction project has racked up more than $5 million in fines, so far.

  • NCDOT assessed 10 fines totaling $5.3 million
  • NCDOT released to us the list of liquidated damages
  • Officials can negotiate with the contractor to settle the final amount

The North Carolina Department of Transportation released to us the list of liquidated damages assessed so far to the project. This includes late last month when a dump truck accident forced the interstate to be shut down for nearly eight hours.

Since the project started, the department assessed 10 fines totaling $5.3 million.

This does not mean the fine has been paid. NCDOT will charge the contractor in this case against any payments to be made. Officials can negotiate with the contractor to settle the final amount.
