CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte may consider new regulations for riding electric scooters in the city.

  • 140,000 people rode docless electric scooter in Charlotte in August.
  • 20,000 rode dockless bikes.
  • City Council may have to develop regulations due to popularity.

The city's department of transportation says new data shows 140,000 people rode scooters in the city in August, compared to 20,000 who rode dockless bikes.

One city council member says the increased popularity may require certain restrictions.

"We probably need to set an age regulation," said Larken Egleston.

The city started its pilot program for the scooters in May.
