WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington police arrested one man and are looking for another after a high speed chase Saturday night  ended in exchange of gunfire.

  • Greer Hayes Old was wanted for a shooting incident last week
  • He and another suspect got into a high speed chase and shootout with officers
  • Police are still looking for the second suspect

Police say they received information that a man wanted for a shooting incident from last week was staying at the Travel Inn on Market Street. As officers arrived, they say he and a passenger left the hotel and began a high speed chase.

“When they came round in the high speed chase, they were doing 100 mph, there were 8 police cars following behind him,” said Chris Caudill who saw the chase from Market and Kerr.

The chase came to an end in the area of Empie Park when the two men exited the car and fled on foot. Shots were exchanged between an officer and a suspect. There were no injuries.

The Wilmington Fire Department next door to the park was on lock down, but they did help find the suspect, 22-year-old Greer Hayes Old about an hour later.

“The Wilmington sable helicopter was apparently not available, they contacted Wrightsville Beach for their drone, which they brought here and helped them with their aerial surveillance, looking for the two subjects,” said Sal Delia, the master firefighter at the Wilmington Fire Department.

A second suspect is at-large and is considered to be armed and dangerous. He is described as a white male wearing dark clothing, a bandana and a hat.
